I’ve made many trips to Cuba these past few years, and a number of them have been in the Holguin area. There were two hotels on my hit list in this region, and the Hotel Costa Verde Beach Holguin was one of them.
Please note the hotel has changed ownership since the publishing of this post.
Hotel Costa Verde Beach Holguin Location
The Costa Verde Beach resort (formerly the Blau Costa Verde) is located on the long white sand beaches of Playa Pesquera in the Holguin and Guardalavaca region. Walk the length of the beach from the hotel, and you’ll find yourself at their neighbouring property the Playa Pesquero resort.
This hotel is formally known as the Blau Costa Verde Holguin. It is now under the same management as the neighbouring property the Playa Pesquero resort, and not much has changed from an infrastructure/services offering.
Costa Verde Beach Holguin King Room (Courtyard View)
My room was located in a new complex which was recently added to the resort. The large villa buildings house these rooms which were sold as Plus Rooms. There appear to be different rates depending on if your room is located in the newly renovated buildings or the older ones.
I think the only difference between my room and a standard is that there are king bedrooms available in the plus rooms, and they are located in the newer buildings. The standard rooms often have two twin or 2 queen beds.
We were also given wine in our room but were unable to get a corkscrew from the staff to open it. I found my bed and both pillows were a bit hard, but otherwise, I had everything I needed in my suite. At the time, I was even able to connect to the wifi in my room.
Amenities included in the room were:
• Hair dryer
• Satellite television
• Iron & Ironing board
• Balcony
• Coffeemaker
• 1 King or 2 Doubles
• Mini-bar
• 220-volt outlet
• Minimum Adults 1
• Minimum Occupancy 1
• Telephone
• Safety deposit box

Costa Verde Beach
There are many walkways throughout the resort which lead along the water to the beach. This is great for runners and walkers who like pathed surfaces vs the sand. I took walks along these paths around the resort each morning before breakfast.
The beach is long and also great for walking. If you walk the length of the property, it eventually connects to the Playa Pesquero resort.

Hotel Costa Verde Beach Holguin Pools
There is a large freshwater pool that runs through the centre of the resort and lounge chairs are scattered throughout. What I didn’t like about the pool was the lack of shade.
There are two other pools on the resort including a pool for kids as part of the hotel’s kids club.
Hotel Costa Verde Beach Restaurants
As mentioned the hotel has transitioned from the Blau and has renamed all its restaurants, however, they are all located in the same areas and feature the same menus.
Bariay: Buffet restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Los Caneyes: 24-hour Snack bar located by the pool and beach area.
El Bohio: A la carte steakhouse
Venecia: A la carte Italian restaurant
Kyoto: A la carte Japanese restaurant
El Conuco: A la carte Cuban restaurant
Ice Cream Parlor: Grab a cone or bowl at the ice cream shop during the afternoon hours.
Costa Verde Holguin Bars
There are bars located by the pool, beach and in the Lobby. The resort has a nightclub and a cigar lounge as well.
I was in Cuba on business, so I missed the shows, but they ran in the theatre each night. I liked that the location of the theatre was not near the room buildings which meant it did not disturb me when I had an early night.
