May 16, 2016 – It is just two week’s away until the 12 suite expansion at the Retro Suites Hotel in Chatham Ontario is set to open. On June 1st guests will arrive expecting to be the first to stay in the hotel’s newly added section and eagerly anticipate what the new room themes will be.

The Retro Suites Hotel is well-known in Chatham as a small luxury boutique hotel with a lot of personality and character. Each hotel room has its own theme and style like the chic King William suite a current favourite for brides getting married at the hotel, or the Harley Davidson which has a motorcycle hanging on the room’s wall. For more details on the Retro Suites Hotel visit my review of the hotel here.
This past weekend I was visiting the Chatham-Kent region again and was invited on a super secret behind the scenes tour of the new rooms which are starting to take shape. With names like Pop, The Studio, The Cottage and Paris, all with uniquely themed furnishings and decor, it looks like this expansion will not disappoint fans of the hotel.
The new room themes continue the Retro Suites Hotel’s combination of urban chic, funky and fun hotel room themes. All the rooms still have a small kitchenette, however the shower stalls in these new rooms appear to be even larger and more modern – in fact they are so wide I could not fit them into one camera shot.
As I walked into each room in its unfinished state, with plastic wrapped furniture and boxes laid out on the floor I still had that moment of “oh Wow” and “OMG” as I took in the theme and all the little details that are already making up each room’s distinct personality. In an effort not to spoil the “ooh aah” moment for future guests I’m only showing bits and pieces of the rooms which I’m sure will be spectacular when finished.
Take The Lodge room for example. The wood panelling used in this room was all repurposed from the original building and used to cover the walls. The moment you walk through the door you immediately get the feeling you have just entered a log cabin – complete with cozy fireplace, log walls and all the furnishings of a high-end lodge.
From the wood panelling in one room, to the chic Paris, a room complete with a tin roof ceiling with articulate details.
This room is inspired by everything that is Paris from fashion, to travel keepsakes like a silver Eiffel Tower.
Have an artistic side? You will love The Studio where Cathy Van Raay-Myers, wife of Retro Suites Hotel owner Rob Myers shared her love for painting in a room filled with her personal touches and art.
Pop a mismatched room filled with bright colours like the yellow bathroom finishings or the bright turquoise chair in the main room, looks like it is developing into a fun room with lots of personality.
With just two weeks to go it is difficult to see how it will all be finished in time. Though each room I walked into was unfinished, and the hallway decor was yet to be finalized and hung on the walls – I was definitely feeling each theme in every room I walked into. I can’t wait to go back and and discover another creative suite at The Retro Suites Hotel in Chatham Ontario.
